Episode 3

Communicating Indigenous culture through maps

Happy Tuesday! On this week's episode of Location Matters, we have Andrew Dowding from the Ngarluma traditional owner group and Managing Director at Winyama, and Merindah Bairnsfather-Scott, Noongar woman that was born and raised on Whadjuk Boodja country and a GIS Analayst at Winyama. We dive into how Indigenous people are using maps to communicate their culture, both the good and the bad. We look at how maps can begin to cover dispossession of Indigenous people over time, temporary uses of how people are using traditional lands, how maps can help with reclamation of Indigenous spaces through language, as well as ways to share knowledge across generations. Both Merindah and Andrew are full of so much wisdom and this episode will leave you wanting to learn more.
